5 Most Popular Dog Breeds of 2017

It’s right around this time of year that many dog lovers get together and begin to form a consensus on which dog breeds are the most popular in the current year on the list of dog breeds.

This year, I was extremely surprised by a few of the choices (one breed in particular), and I think you might be too!

Let’s take a look and see if your dog’s breed is on the list of the Most Popular Dog Breeds for 2017.

The Top 5 on Dog Stairs and Ramps List of Dog Breeds

Bernese Mountain Dog

One of the most popular dog breeds on our 2017 list of dog breeds is the Bernese Mountain Dog, and due to the number of these dogs that I have seen at the park and on my local walking trails, I was not surprised by this one at all.

The Bernese Mountain Dog is one of the most beautiful, peaceful and sociable dogs in the animal kingdom. They are a large breed who will typically weigh in excess of 100 pounds when fully grown.

In addition to being a large dog, this breed requires a lot of exercise.  So, if you are interested in getting a Bernese, be prepared to commit at least half an hour per day to walking or exercising them.

The Bernese is also extremely sensitive to heat and humidity and will need lots of shade if left outdoors for long periods of time.

French Bulldog

Also know as the “Frenchie,” these gentle little creatures stole a spot this year due to their adorable ears and unwavering loyalty and love.  By all accounts, this breed makes for a tremendous companion and earned a spot on our list of dog breeds.

This breed is extremely intelligent and very protective of their humans.  Training them can be a bit challenging as they do have somewhat of a stubborn streak in them.

These dogs are very low maintenance as far as grooming and upkeep is concerned, however, they can be quite clingy and should not be left alone for long periods of time as they are known to experience separation anxiety.

Here’s a bit of a fun fact. Lady Gaga, the infamous Pop Singer, actually owns three French Bulldogs named Asia, Koji and Moonpig. You can bet they’ve got it pretty darn good!

You might be seeing this name and have no idea what type of dog this is, but this is actually a cross breed. For the past couple of years, Chugs have started taking over the dog world by storm. Can you see why chugs secured a spot on Dog Stairs and Ramps list of dog breeds?

These Chihuahua and Pug mixes are some of the most adorable dogs that I have ever seen.  Just look at that little face!

These dogs have very unpredictable personalities as you never know if they are going to take on the friendly sweet disposition of the pug, or the more curious and suspicious personality of the Chihuahua.

Chugs are known to be extremely friendly and compassionate, but tend to have a little rough streak just as the Chihuahuas do. Regardless, as puppies, these are just too adorable to pass up.

This cross breed is super smart and will quickly learn new commands and tricks.  They don’t require a whole lot of exercise and their activity levels are pretty low.

Pit Bull

If you were wondering which dog breed on this list shocked me the most, it is this one. As the owner of two Pit Mixes, I’m a little biased, but happy to see them on this list.

With so much bad publicity and negative media coverage on Pit Bulls, I never thought I would see the day where this breed made a positive list, but apparently, the tides are beginning to turn for these often-misunderstood dogs.

Talk to any Pit owner, and they will tell you that these are among the best dogs and best friends that a human can have. They are extremely friendly, loving, and loyal AND deserve to be on any popular list of dog breeds.

I won’t climb up on my soapbox, but just like any dog, the temperament of the Pit Bull is all in their environment and how they are raised and treated.

In the past 5-7 years, Goldendoodles have absolutely stolen the hearts and attention of dog lovers everywhere.

A cross between the Golden Retriever and the Standard Poodle, the moment this breed became available to the public eye, they were all over social media and everyone wanted one.

They are absolutely adorable and some say, among the smartest and most loyal.

Goldendoodles are extremely social animals, super intelligent and quick studies.  They fall under the category of companion dogs, absolutely love people and have even begun being trained as guide dogs.

Whenever I am exercising my dogs, if I don’t come across a Bernese Mountain Dog, I am guaranteed to see a Goldendoodle!
